Intelligences for Inhabiting the Future from Colombia

- Designing a Regenerative World -

Presented by the Faculty of Architecture and Design and the Campus Administration Office of Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, this exhibition at Time Space Existence, a parallel event to the Venice 2025 Architecture Biennial,  explores how architecture can respond to the most pressing climatic, social, and technological challenges.

Colombia, the second most biodiverse country in the world, serves as an innovation laboratory where architecture bridges the natural and built environments, integrating local and global perspectives. The exhibition is structured around three interconnected intelligences: Natural, Artificial, and Distributed, offering strategies for a sustainable and equitable habitat.

Three Intelligences for a Regenerative World

Natural Intelligence

Rooted in ecological principles, it seeks to regenerate ecosystems and promote biodiversity. Through the use of local biomaterials, bioclimatic design, and sustainable strategies such as rainwater harvesting, dry toilets, and urban agriculture, it reduces environmental impact and strengthens resilience.

Artificial Intelligence

Harnesses digital tools and technological advancements to optimize design and enhance sustainability. Through generative planning and intelligent energy management systems, it helps reduce resource consumption, minimize waste, and lower emissions.

Distributed Intelligence

Encourages co-creation through community participation. It promotes material reuse, self-construction, and environmental regeneration, empowering communities to transform their habitat in a sustainable and inclusive way.

An Interactive Exhibition Experience

Virtual Gallery (accessible via QR code and VR headsets): Showcases a selection of buildings from the Universidad Javeriana campus, as well as theses and research projects recognized in national and international competitions.

Bookshelf: Displays books, studies, and research by faculty and students, along with photographs of representative projects.

Interactive Screens: Explore the application of each intelligence in sustainable design, demonstrating their impact in an integrated academic proposal.

An Invitation to Reflection and Action

More than an exhibition, this is an invitation to reflect and act. We face unprecedented environmental, social, and technological challenges, and we believe that academia and architecture can be catalysts for positive change.

Intelligences Shaping the Future

Discover how architecture integrates Natural, Artificial, and Distributed Intelligences to create sustainable and inclusive environments. From biomimetic designs and AI-driven optimization to community-driven solutions, this section highlights innovative projects showcased in the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana’s installation at the Time Space Existence 2025.

Drawing from Colombia’s biodiversity, this intelligence shows how architecture learns from nature to create sustainable environments. Green roofs, rainwater harvesting, and eco-classrooms in vulnerable communities illustrate how construction can harmonize with ecosystems. Architecture becomes an agent of regeneration, fostering a symbiotic built-living relationship.

Natural Intelligence

Technological advancements and digital tools are reshaping architecture, optimizing resource use and enabling adaptive designs. Environmental simulations and parametric models enhance efficiency, while AI expands creative possibilities. Rather than replacing humans, these technologies serve as allies, improving sustainability and responsiveness to local challenges.

Artificial Intelligence

In a country marked by inequalities, knowledge must be shared. Distributed intelligence fosters collaboration among communities, students, and experts to develop inclusive solutions. Housing improvements in Afro-descendant communities and environmental classrooms in rural areas highlight how collective learning and teamwork drive sustainable and equitable architectural responses.
